Kids's Olympics: Visit from Ashton Eaton!

We had a surprise visit from Ashton Eaton this morning. He said some amazing things to us about hard work, his training, and achieving Olympic GOLD!

Hear Ashton's speech...

Ashton was wonderful with our students.
He was even willing to offer up a high five to every kid who walked out of the assembly!

All School Storyline: Kids' Olympics!

We came back from winter break on January 6th and immediately kicked off our new storyline at 9:05 am. The entire school gathered in the gym to meet and hear from a special guest. The guest was Rich Gross (a 1988 U.S. Biathlete and Olympian who just happens to be married to one of our first grade teachers!). Mr. Gross spoke with us a little bit about his sport and memories from his trip to the Olympics. He then said that he and some other Olympians had been thinking, and they had a special question to ask our school.

He played this message...

After reading about the history of the Olympics and more specifics about the Winter Olympics, our school's students decided to take on the challenge! But, we still needed approval from The International Olympic Committee.

We researched various Winter Olympic sports and brainstormed appropriate local venues. We even created a mascot and a logo!

In the middle of the week, Mr. Gross came back to see our plans. He documented everything with his camera and told us he planned to send the photos to the International Olympic Committee. The next morning, at the assembly, he shared great news!
